Farmingdale State Holds Off St. Joseph's-LI to Earn Skyline Victory

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team earned an 8-7 win over St. Joseph's-Long Island this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. FSC improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 1-1.

St. Joseph's-Long Island took an early 2-0 lead after junior attackmen Tim McCann (East Islip, N.Y.) and Robert Lopez (Shirley, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals.

FSC got on the board with 2:30 left in the first quarter as senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) scored off the feed from sophomore attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.).

With 8:41 remaining in the second quarter, Haggerty set up senior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) for a goal to tie the score at 2-2.

The Golden Eagles took a 3-2 advantage into halftime after senior midfielder Ryan Wheeler (Centereach, N.Y.) notched a goal with 1:35 on the clock.

Just 17 seconds into the third quarter, Haggerty recorded a goal from Hunter Lyons (East Islip, N.Y.) to knot the game at 3-3.

Haggerty followed with an unassisted goal to give Farmingdale State a 4-3 lead with 9:50 left in the quarter.

Still down by one, 5-4, with 2:38 remaining in the third, St. Joseph's-Long Island junior midfielder Matt Trautman (Islip, N.Y.) tallied a man-up score to tie the game at 5-5.

With 9:32 left in the fourth quarter, FSC senior midfielder Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) set up J McMahon for a goal to go in front, 6-5.

Just 1:52 later, Wandle netted a pass from J McMahon as the Rams went up by two.

After Haggerty scored to give Farmingdale State their largest lead of the game at 8-5, the Golden Eagles netted a pair of goals just 27 seconds apart to cut their deficit to 8-7 with only 51 seconds left to play.

St. Joseph's-Long Island won the ensuing faceoff but failed to get a shot off as Farmingdale State forced a Golden Eagles turnover as time expired to secure the 8-7 victory.

Haggerty led the way for FSC with a game-high four goals, to go along with one assist and four ground balls. Both Wandle and J McMahon recorded two goals and one assist each, while sophomore defender Michael Delligatti (East Rockaway, N.Y.) recorded a game-high six ground balls. Juniors Anthony Maiello (Oakdale, N.Y.) and Jack Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.), sophomore Nick Bucholz (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers in the win.

McCann notched two goals for SJC-LI, while sophomore defender Vincent Raccuglia (West Islip, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls and caused a game-high four turnovers.

Farmingdale State next hosts Mount Saint Mary College for a conference game on Friday, April 9th at 7:00 p.m.
