Farmingdale, N.Y. - In conjunction with the DezyStrong Foundation, the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team will be hosting a #DezyStrong game this Friday, April 2nd, against Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island. The team will be wearing special #DezyStrong jerseys to raise awareness and money for the Foundation as part of the Play DezyStrong initiative!
The DezyStrong Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that was established by Matthew "Dezy" DiStefano, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer in February of 2019.
In the midst of his own cancer battle, Dezy chose to spread the message of a "Strong Mind Strong Body" mentality to help motivate and ultimately inspire others. Throughout the course of Dezy's 11-month battle with cancer, he had the courage to put his message first, speaking to and influencing as many people as possible. Dezy was proud to have spoken at universities such as Duke, UNC and Hofstra to help athletes understand the importance of a positive mindset and a healthy approach to living. The message of the DezyStrong Foundation has reached thousands of people.
FSC Head Coach Sean Chamberlain said, "Matt's strength is undeniable and his positivity has been such an inspiration to our players and our program. The way he took his diagnosis head on is incredible and the impact the DezyStrong Foundation has had on others is truly amazing."
Dezy's "We Get To" mantra has become a common term among the foundations supporters. The DezyStrong Foundation is proud to carry on Dezy's legacy. Their mission is to provide the opportunity for individuals who are fighting cancer to have access to support that affects a positive mental-well being.
