Rams Roll Past Purchase in Season Opener

Farmingdale State - 23, Purchase College - 4 


Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team opened the 2021 season with a 23-4 win over Purchase College this afternoon. The Rams will only be playing Skyline Conference games this year due to COVID-19 protocols. 

Less than four minutes into the game, FSC (1-0) sophomore attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tallied the first goal off the pass by senior midfielder Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). With 10:04 remaining in the first quarter, the Rams went ahead 2-0 after freshman midfielder Hunter Lyons (East Islip, N.Y.) netted the pass from senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.). Over the next six minutes, Wandle and Haggerty each scored three goals to extend the Farmingdale State advantage to 8-0. C. McMahon added one goal before Haggerty tallied the final two of the quarter to put FSC on top, 11-0. Haggerty recorded five goals in the first quarter. 

Junior midfielder John Feiner (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal only 37 seconds into the second quarter to give the Rams a 12-0 lead. Wandle and Haggerty followed with back-to-back scores to increase the Farmingdale State advantage to 14-0 with 13:22 on the clock. The Rams outscored PC (0-1) 3-1 the remainder of the half and took a 17-1 lead into the break. 

FSC freshman attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Casey Romano (Bellport, N.Y.) opened the third quarter with goals to put the Rams up, 19-1. After sophomore attack Connor Schwenker (Westhampton, N.Y.) notched an unassisted goal for the Panthers, Farmingdale State responded with three unanswered scores to extend the advantage to 22-2 with 4:01 remaining in the third. Purchase outscored the Rams 2-1 over the final minutes of the quarter and headed to the fourth trailing, 23-4.

Neither team would score in the final quarter as Farmingdale State went on for the 23-4 road victory.

Haggerty led the way with a game-high nine points on six goals and three assists, while Wandle finished the day with seven points on five goals and two assists. Romano added three goals and two assists and Feiner tallied two goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was 12-for-15 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high seven ground balls.

Four different players scored a goal in the loss for Purchase.

FSC next will host Merchant Marine on Sunday, March 28th at noon.
