Fitzgerald Scores Game-Winner as Rams Defeat Kean

Union, N.J. - Tied 6-6 with 3:42 remaining, sophomore midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal off the pass from John Feiner (Farmingdale, N.Y.) leading the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 road victory at Kean University on Wednesday night.

FSC (9-7) outscored Kean (12-3) 2-0 in the first quarter as sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) and junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) each tallied unassisted goals.

Over the first 7:36 of the second quarter, the Cougars scored four unanswered goals to go out in front, 4-2. With 5:50 remaining, Fitzgerald netted the feed from sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to the cut Farmingdale State deficit to one. The Rams evened the score at 4-4 and went into the break tied after ending the half on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.). FSC outshot Kean 24-14 and won 7-of-10 faceoffs in the first half.

The Cougars regained the lead, 5-4, 5:58 into the third quarter on an unassisted goal from sophomore midfielder Jack Bushey (Sparta, N.J.). Fitzgerald answered with his second score of the game and with 2:15 left in the third, McMahon added a goal to give Farmingdale State a 6-5 advantage. With only seven seconds on the clock, senior attack Tom Kelly (Stony Point, N.Y.) recorded an unassisted goal to again tie the game at 6-6.

Fitzgerald's game-winner with 3:42 left to play was the only goal scored in the fourth quarter as Farmingdale State earned the 7-6 non-conference road victory.

Fitzgerald finished the night with a career-high three goals, while McMahon had three points on two goals and one assist. Senior defender Steven Diaz (Hicksville, N.Y.) caused three of FSC's seven turnovers and had three ground balls.

Kean was led by Kelly who scored twice and picked up four ground balls.

Junior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) had 16 saves for the Rams, while freshman Thomas Francy (Keyport, N.J.) stopped 15 shots for the Cougars. Wood has recorded double-digit saves in four of his last five games.

Farmingdale State will close out the regular season on senior day when they play host to Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, April 28th at 2:30 p.m.
