Maritime - 10, Farmingdale State - 6
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team hosted Skyline opponent Maritime College this afternoon and fell, 10-6. The Privateers outscored FSC 6-2 in the second half en route to the conference victory.
Maritime (9-4, 3-2 Skyline) senior attack Nick Pellegrino (Melville, N.Y.) and freshman attack Matt DeMeo (Sayville, N.Y.) recorded the first two goals of the game to put the Privateers ahead 2-0 with 5:22 remaining in the opening quarter. With 28 seconds left, Farmingdale State (8-7, 2-3 Skyline) sophomore midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored off the feed from sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to one.
Pellegrino opened the second quarter with a goal to regain a Maritime two-goal edge, but FSC quickly answered with a Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) score just nine seconds later. After an unassisted goal from Privateers sophomore attack Danny Connell (Seaford, N.Y.), Rams freshman attack Connor Dalton (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Sandorfi registered the final two goals of the half to tie the game at 4-4.
Maritime would outscore FSC 4-0 in the third quarter to take an 8-4 lead as both Pellegrino and DeMeo produced two goals.
Trailing 9-4 in the fourth, Farmingdale State freshman midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) tallied a goal from senior attack Jake Borresen (East Meadow, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to four. The Privateers responded as Connell set up junior midfielder Brett Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) for a goal to go up 10-5. Maritime held the Rams to only one goal over the final 7:39 as they earned the conference victory, 10-6.
Sandorfi tallied a team-high three points, on a goal and two assists, while McAvoy (2a) and Fitzgerald (2g) finished with two points apiece. Sophomore midfielder Christian Stalter (Miller Place, N.Y.) ended 11-for-14 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high seven ground balls and senior defender Nick Perrone (Northport, N.Y.) caused a game-high four turnovers in the loss.
Pellegrino and DeMeo led the way for the Privateers scoring four goals each, while freshman midfielder Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had three assists.
Maritime senior goalkeeper Brendan McNally (Long Beach, N.Y.) stopped 14 shots in the win.
FSC next travels to non-conference opponent Kean University on Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00 p.m.
