Quick Start Leads Skidmore Past Rams

Skidmore - 15, Farmingdale State - 7


Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - Skidmore scored the first five goals of the game and led 10-5 at half as they earned a 15-7 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State on Tuesday. The FSC men's lacrosse team now stands at 8-6 on the year, while the Thoroughbreds improved to 6-8.

Skidmore opened the game with a pair of goals from both freshman midfielder Jason Shlonsky (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and junior attack Eric Megnia (West Barnstable, Mass.) to quickly take a 4-0 lead with 6:51 left to play in the first. Trailing 5-0 with 1:40 on the clock, FSC junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) scored off the pass from Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and senior attack Jake Borresen (East Meadow, N.Y.) followed with a goal to cut the deficit to 5-2 after one quarter.

Only 31 seconds into the second, the Rams closed to within two as sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) netted the feed from Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.). After an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.) cut the Skidmore lead to 5-4, sophomore attack Will Lukas (Longmeadow, Mass.) answered with a score for the Thoroughbreds.

Leading 6-5 with 5:52 left in the half, Skidmore tallied four unanswered goals and took a 10-5 advantage into the break.

The only score of the third quarter came with 8:33 on the clock as Shlonsky converted a pass from RJ Caruso (Burlington, Mass.) for Skidmore.

Farmingdale State sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) notched an unassisted goal 1:29 into the final quarter but the Thoroughbreds responded with four straight scores to go out in front, 15-6. Freshman attack Connor Dalton (Hicksville, N.Y.) recorded the last goal of the game with 58 seconds remaining as the Rams fell, 15-7.

McMahon led FSC with a team-high two goals, while Sandorfi and Ragland each added a goal and an assist. Junior defender Dan Panzarino (Oceanside, N.Y.) caused a game-high three turnovers and picked up two ground balls and junior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) stopped a career-high 16 shots in the loss.

Megnia notched a game-high seven points on four assists and three goals, while Shlonsky scored three goals, had one assist and three ground balls in the win.

Farmingdale State next will play host to Skyline Conference opponent Maritime on Saturday, April 21st at 2:30 p.m.
