Farmingdale State - 20, Purchase College - 5
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.) tallied a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists as the FSC men's lacrosse team earned a 20-5 Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College this afternoon.
The Rams (8-5, 2-2) dominated the first quarter and outscored the Panthers, 9-0. McAvoy had two goals and four assists, while junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) scored four goals, including two on man-up opportunities.
After a pair of Purchase (4-7, 1-3) goals early in the second cut the deficit to 9-2, FSC responded with scores from sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.), Ragland and McAvoy to take a 12-2 advantage into the break. In the first half, Farmingdale State won 13-of-16 faceoffs and out shot the Panthers, 27-10.
The only two goals in the third quarter came from McAvoy and senior attack Jake Borresen (East Meadow, N.Y.) to put the Rams in front by 12, 14-2. Farmingdale State opened the final quarter with four unanswered goals by sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Nick Piazzolla (Islip, N.Y.), Borresen and sophomore attack Joe Roach (Hicksville, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 18-2 with 6:50 remaining. PC outscored Farmingdale State, 3-2, over the final minutes as FSC earned the 20-5 Skyline win.
Ragland scored a career-high five goals, while McMahon had one goal, a game-high seven ground balls and was 8-for-11 on faceoffs. Sophomore midfielder Christian Stalter (Miller Place, N.Y.) won 8-of-10 faceoffs and freshman midfielder John Feiner (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored one goal and picked up six ground balls. FSC defenders Nick Perrone (Northport, N.Y.) and Nick Capone (West Islip, N.Y.) each had five ground balls in the victory.
Purchase was led by freshman midfielder Ben Erkan (Bellport, N.Y.) who scored a pair of goals and had a team-high six ground balls.
The Rams next will step out of conference when they travel to Skidmore on Tuesday, April 17th for a 4:00 p.m. game.
