FSC Defeats SUNY Delhi in Non-Conference Matchup

Farmingdale State - 8, SUNY Delhi - 5


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team hosted non-conference opponent SUNY Delhi this afternoon and earned a three-goal victory, 8-5. FSC improved to 7-5 overall, while the Broncos fell to 2-9.

Delhi sophomore attack Brendan Scheeler (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game just over three minutes in to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. 

The Rams got on the board early in the second quarter as junior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored off the feed from sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to tie the game at 1-1. Only 12 seconds later, FSC senior defender Nick Capone (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to put the Rams ahead 2-1. Clark recorded his second goal of the game and final score of the half with 7:48 left in the quarter to give FSC a 3-1 advantage heading into the break. Delhi senior goalkeeper Eric Morse (Kerhonksen, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the first half.

After each team scored a man-up goal in the third, the Broncos registered back-to-back goals by sophomore attack John Rohan III (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior attack Jeremy Leary (Oneonta, N.Y.) to tie the game at 4-4. FSC took the lead, 5-4, after freshman midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored with one second remaining in the quarter to put FSC up 5-4 heading into the fourth.

With 9:06 left, Clark set up Sandorfi for a goal to give Farmingdale State a two-goal lead. The Rams extended the advantage to 8-4 as freshman attack Connor Dalton (Hicksville, N.Y.) and McMahon tallied the game's next two goals. Rohan III produced the only goal over the final 5:15 as FSC won 8-5.

Clark finished with a game-high four points, on two goals and two assists, while Sandorfi and junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) each had a goal and an assist. McMahon ended with a pair of goals and a season-high 10 ground balls and both Capone and sophomore defender Brandon Felice (Smithtown, N.Y.) registered three caused turnovers.

FSC junior goalkeeper Greg Palma (East Islip, N.Y.) made a season-high seven saves to earn the win.

For Delhi, Rohan III (2g, 1a) and Leary (1g, 2a) tallied three points apiece in the loss.

The Rams will next host Purchase for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, April 14th starting at 1:00 p.m.
