Farmingdale State - 10, St. Joseph's-Long Island - 5
Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team traveled to St. Joseph's College (L.I.) for their Skyline Conference opener this evening and won, 10-5. The Rams improved to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-2, 0-1.
FSC got it going early as junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal only 1:35 into the game and junior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) followed with a pair of goals to give Farmingdale State an early 3-0 lead. With 5:35 remaining in the first quarter, Rams junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to put FSC in front by four.
St. Joseph's-Long Island trailed 4-1 at the half and registered the first two goals of the third quarter to cut the deficit to just one. Farmingdale State would respond by recording the next three goals as Clark scored off the feed from sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored from Ragland and freshman midfielder John Feiner (Farmingdale, N.Y.) produced his first career goal from senior defender Nick Capone (West Islip, N.Y.) to regain a four-goal advantage, 7-3.
Leading 7-4 with 13:52 left in the contest, Ragland tallied back-to-back scores only 18 seconds apart to increase the FSC lead to 9-4. Each team added a goal down the stretch as the Rams earned the conference victory, 10-5.
Ragland and Clark finished with three goals apiece, while McAvoy scored twice. Feiner ended with three points on a goal and two assists, Sandorfi registered two assists and a team-high four ground balls and sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) caused a game-high four turnovers. FSC junior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) stopped a season-high 14 shots in the win.
SJC-LI sophomore midfielder Zak Jones (East Quogue, N.Y.) tallied two goals and two assists in defeat.
Farmingdale State next travels to Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, March 24th at noon.
