FSC Falls in Non-Conference Matchup with Hartwick

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Hartwick College today, 5-3, in a non-conference matchup. The Rams dropped to 2-3 overall, while the Hawks improved to 1-1 on the season.

Hartwick opened the scoring with 7:57 remaining in the first quarter after an FSC penalty led to a man-up goal from sophomore attack Wyatt Long (Hardwick, N.J.). In the second, junior midfielder Cordell Armstrong (Harleysville, Pa.) found Brett Maguire (Adams Center, N.Y.) to put the Hawks up 2-0. Seven minutes later, Hartwick made it 3-0 with a tally from junior midfielder Chris VanDemark (Painted Post, N.Y.).

The Rams held off Hartwick in the third until the 5:45 mark after a score by Armstrong would put Hartwick ahead 4-0. Senior defender Nick Capone (West Islip, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State on the board just 12 seconds later, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

After a man-up Hartwick goal with 9:51 remaining in the fourth, senior attack Jake Borresen (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored off a feed from junior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) to cut the Hawks lead to three, 5-2. With 1:40 left to play, junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) put the Rams within two, 5-3, but the Hawks would hold on for the non-conference win.

Hartwick senior David Bianculli (Charlton, Mass.) held the advantage on the faceoffs, winning 8-of-12, while senior defender Eric Shweitzer (Babylon, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 10 ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper C.J. Alesandrini (Schenectady, N.Y.) posted nine saves for the win.

For Farmingdale State, Capone caused a team-high three turnovers and also grabbed a team-high six ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) made nine saves in defeat for FSC.

The Rams next host Alfred State on Monday, March 12th for a non-conference game at 3:00 p.m.
