Farmingdale State - 13, Neumann - 3
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) registered a game-high five points on four goals and one assist to lead the FSC men's lacrosse team to a 13-3 non-conference victory over Neumann University this afternoon. The Rams improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Knights are now 1-3.
Tied at 1-1 with 9:34 remaining in the first quarter, McMahon tallied back-to-back goals to put FSC in front by two. Rams junior midfielder Frederick Thomas IV (Inwood, N.Y.) recorded the final goal of the quarter off the feed from sophomore attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to give Farmingdale State a 4-1 lead heading into the second.
FSC extended their advantage to 6-1 after junior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.) each scored an unassisted goal less than five minutes into the second quarter. With 3:03 left in the half, McMahon set up senior attack Jake Borresen (East Meadow, N.Y.) for a goal to put FSC ahead 7-1 heading into the halftime break.
The Rams opened the third quarter with a James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) score to go in front 8-1. Neumann would answer as senior attack Adam Fagan (Norwood, Penn.) tallied a goal from freshman midfielder Bo Olshefsky (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to six. With only 23 seconds left in the quarter, McMahon recorded a goal from McAvoy to regain a seven-goal advantage, 9-2.
In the fourth, Farmingdale State outscored the Knights 4-1 as they added man-up scores from sophomore midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.), McMahon and freshman attack Connor Dalton (Hicksville, N.Y.) and an even-strength goal from McAvoy en route to the 13-3 non-conference victory.
Clark finished the day with three points, seven ground balls and a game-high five caused turnovers, while McAvoy scored twice and picked up two ground balls. Senior defender Nick Capone (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded a career-high eight ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers and senior defender Nick Perrone (Northport, N.Y.) matched his career-high with four caused turnovers in the win.
Olshefsky tallied a team-high two points for the Knights, while defenders Ryan Martin (Philadelphia, Penn.) and Alex Rucci (Mullica Hill, N.J.) each picked up five ground balls.
Farmingdale State next hosts Oneonta for a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 6th at 3:00 p.m.
