Strong Second Half Leads Manhattanville Past FSC

Farmingdale, N.Y. - In a non-conference men's lacrosse game this evening, Manhattanville College outscored Farmingdale State 6-2 in the second half as they earned the victory, 10-6. The Rams fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Valiants improve to 2-0.

FSC opened the scoring only 1:17 into the game as sophomore midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) netted an unassisted goal.

With 3:56 left in the quarter, a man-up goal by Manhattanville sophomore midfielder Nick Delia (New City, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1. Only 33 seconds later, junior midfielder Erik Sparby (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to put the Valiants ahead 2-1.

The Rams scored the first goal of the second quarter as Fitzgerald set up sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) for a man-up goal. Manhattanville would register back-to-back goals before FSC junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.) and Fitzgerald each scored to send the game into the halftime break tied at 4-4.

After each team scored to open the third quarter, a goal by Valiants sophomore attack Gianni Ciffone (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) put the Valiants in front by one, 6-5. Less than a minute later, Ciffone would set up sophomore midfielder Ryan Leonard (Wayne, N.J.) for a goal to put Manhattanville ahead by two heading into the fourth quarter.

FSC opened the fourth with a McAvoy goal to close within just one, 7-6. Valiants sophomore attack Will Duval (Granite Bay, Calif.) would quickly respond with a score to regain a two-goal advantage. Manhattanville would register the final two goals of the game as they earned the non-conference victory, 10-6.

Fitzgerald finished the evening with a team-high three points on two goals and one assist, while McAvoy scored twice. Sophomore midfielder Christian Stalter (Miller Place, N.Y.) won 12-of-17 faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine ground balls in the loss.

The Valiants were led by Ciffone and Duval who tallied two goals and one assist each.

The Rams next host non-conference opponent Neumann on Saturday, March 3rd at noon.
