Rams Roll Past Mitchell in Season Opening Victory

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a 22-1 home victory over Mitchell College this afternoon. The Rams are now 1-0, while the Mariners are 0-2 on the year.

FSC junior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) tallied the first two goals of the game and both junior midfielder Conor McAvoy (East Setauket, N.Y.) and senior attack Jake Borresen (East Meadow, N.Y.) followed with scores to put the Rams on top, 4-0, with 10:26 left in the quarter. Over the final 2:33 of the first, Farmingdale State added goals by junior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) and a pair from McAvoy to extend the lead to 8-0.

McMahon notched his second goal of the day early in the second quarter before a man-up score from Ragland put FSC ahead, 10-0. Clark, junior midfielder Frederick Thomas IV (Inwood, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Joe Watson (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kevin Kasprzak (Huntington, N.Y.) added scores as FSC took a 14-0 advantage into the break. The Rams did not allow Mitchell to attempt a shot in the first half.

After a four goal third quarter increased the Farmingdale State lead to 18-0, the Rams held a 4-1 scoring advantage in the fourth en route to the 22-1 season opening victory. FSC, who had 13 different players record a goal in the win, out shot the Mariners 54-4.

McAvoy led the way with three goals and two assists, while Clark totaled five points on two goals and a game-high three assists. Ragland also scored three times and Thomas IV, Kasprzak and freshman attack Frank Amador (Uniondale, N.Y.) added two goals apiece. Sophomore midfielder Christian Stalter (Miller Place, N.Y.) was a perfect 10-for-10 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high seven ground balls in the victory.

Junior midfielder Kyle Marsh (Oakdale, Conn.) scored the only goal of the game for Mitchell off the pass from freshman attack Kevin Flores (Los Angeles, Calif.)

The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team next will play host to Manhattanville in a non-conference game on Wednesday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m.
