Late Rally Leads FSC Past Western Connecticut

Farmingdale, N.Y. - After Western Connecticut overcame a four-goal deficit to even the score at 7-7, Farmingdale State recorded the final four goals of the game to earn the 11-7 non-conference victory this afternoon. The FSC men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Colonials dropped to 1-2.

Trailing 2-1 with 4:47 left in the first, FSC freshman attack Ryan Wieczorek (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied the final goal of the quarter to tie the game at 2-2.

Wieczorek opened the second quarter with an unassisted score and freshman attack Joe Roach (Hicksville, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.) each added goals for the Rams as Farmingdale State went into halftime leading, 5-2.

After Wieczorek's third goal of the day put FSC ahead by four, Western Connecticut freshman midfielder John Ward (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored off the pass from John Foristall (Danbury, Conn.) to bring the deficit back to three. Over the final 4:53 of the third, WCSU used goals from both freshman attack Eric Caldwell (East Moriches, N.Y.) and Foristall to close within one, 6-5.

With 9:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Rams regained a two-score edge on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Stephen White (Copiague, N.Y.). The Colonials quickly answered with back-to-back goals to tie the game at 7-7 with 7:15 left to play.

Farmingdale State regained the lead on Wieczorek's fourth goal as he netted the pass from White with 5:34 remaining. Over the final 4:03, FSC added goals by senior midfielder Nick LeBright (Levittown, N.Y), senior midfielder Mike Curry (Melville, N.Y.) and senior attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) to cap off the 11-7 non-conference win.

Wieczorek finished with a game-high five points on four goals and an assist, while Cowcer had two goals, two assists and four ground balls. FSC senior goalkeeper Brendan Schade (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded seven saves in the victory.

Western Connecticut was led by Foristall's four goals and one assist.

The Rams will now travel to Hartwick for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 11th at noon.
