Rams Cruise Past Mitchell in Season Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with a 23-2 non-conference home victory over Mitchell College this afternoon.

After FSC's (1-0) Nick LeBright (Levittown, N.Y.) scored the first goal only 30 seconds into the game, freshman attack Ryan Wieczorek (West Islip, N.Y.) followed with three consecutive goals to put the Rams ahead, 4-0.

With 11:29 left in the first quarter, freshman midfielder Zach Rudolph (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and freshman defender Justin Napolitano (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back scores to give Farmingdale State a 6-0 lead. To close out the first, senior attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) added two goals, while sophomore attack Christian Ferruzza (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Wieczorek scored one apiece to increase the advantage to 10-0.

Mitchell (0-1) opened the second quarter with their first goal of the game before the Rams responded with seven unanswered goals to take a 17-1 lead into halftime.

Leading 17-2 with 7:12 left to play in the third, freshman attack Joe Roach (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied a score off the feed from junior midfielder Daniel Desimone (Plainview, N.Y.). Less than five minutes later, Rudolph recorded his third goal of the afternoon to put FSC on top, 19-2. 

The Rams outscored the Mariners 4-0 in the fourth quarter as they earned the 23-2 victory.

Wieczorek scored a game-high five goals, while Rudolph and freshman attack Trevor Church (Shirley, N.Y.) each had three goals. Rifice tallied five points on two goals and three assists and Roach had four points with three goals and an assist. Freshman defender Brandon Felice (Smithtown, N.Y.) and sophomore defender Sean Gannon (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) each picked up a game-high five ground balls. Senior midfielder Matthew Christian (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 8-for-11 on face-offs in the win for Farmingdale State.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 1st with a 7:00 p.m. game at Manhattanville.
