Montclair State - 10, Farmingdale State - 8
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team led 8-7 with 40 seconds remaining but Montclair State closed the game with three unanswered goals to earn the 10-8 Skyline Conference victory this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Trailing 6-2 coming out of halftime, the Rams (11-4, 3-2) opened the third quarter with a man-down goal from senior midfielder Conor Pittard (Setauket, N.Y.) off the pass by Tyler Rifice* (Bohemia, N.Y.). Less than three minutes later, the pair hooked up again to cut the Farmingdale State deficit to two, 6-4. Pittard closed the quarter with his third goal of the game to pull the Rams within one at 6-5.
With 13:33 remaining in the fourth, sophomore midfielder Daniel Desimone (Plainview, N.Y.) scored off the feed from Mike Curry (Melville, N.Y.) to tie the game at 6-6. Only 1:31 later, a Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y) man-up goal gave FSC a 7-6 lead. Curry followed with a goal to increase the FSC advantage to 8-6 with 10:47 left on the clock.
Montclair State's (9-6, 5-0) Dylan Heningburg (Maplewood, N.J.) connected on a man-up opportunity with 4:31 remaining to cut the Red Hawks deficit to 8-7. Junior attack Brady Wulster (Wyckoff, N.J.) recorded the game-tying goal off Brett Mangan's (Maplewood, N.J.) pass with on 40 seconds left in the game. The Red Hawks added two scores over the final 13 seconds to cap off the 10-8 comeback victory.
Pittard tallied a game-high three goals, while Curry finished with two assists and one goal. Sophomore defender Nick Capone (West Islip, N.Y.) and senior defender Matthew Brendel* (Hicksville, N.Y.) caused five and four turnovers, respectively. Senior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots for FSC.
The Red Hawks were led by senior midfielder Zack Schreck (Flemington, N.J.) who had a game-high five points on two goals and three assists.
Montclair State was 17-of-20 on face-offs in the win.
The Rams next will close out the regular season when they host Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, April 30th for senior day. The Rams will have 13 seniors playing in their final regular season home game.
