Cegielski Scores Five as Rams Defeat Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference men's lacrosse game at Maritime this afternoon, Farmingdale State recorded a 9-4 victory. Sophomore attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals and added an assist in the win for the Rams.

FSC (11-3, 3-1) opened the scoring within the first three minutes on a goal from junior midfielder Mike Curry (Melville, N.Y.) who was set up by Cegielski's pass. With 5:37 remaining in the first quarter, Cegielski tallied his first goal of the game to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage. 2:07 later, FSC jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a score from senior midfielder Derrick Sherrod (Huntington, N.Y.). Maritime (6-6, 1-3) used back-to-back Nick Pellegrino (Melville, N.Y.) goals to close the quarter and cut the deficit to 3-2.

Cegielski and junior midfielder Stephen White (Copiague, N.Y.) scored the only two goals in the second quarter as Farmingdale State went into halftime on top, 5-2.

After a scoreless third, White and Cegielski each connected again to open the fourth and extend the lead to 7-2. Each team scored a pair of goals over the final 12:32 as the Rams earned the 9-4 road victory.

White finished the game with two goals and two assists, while Curry added one goal and a pair of assists. Senior defender Dylan Bates* (Wading River, N.Y.) caused a career-high seven turnovers to go along with seven ground balls.

Maritime was led by senior midfielder Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y.) who was 15-of-17 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high 13 ground balls.

FSC senior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) stopped 12 shots, while sophomore Brendan McNally (Long Beach, N.Y.) had 16 saves for the Privateers.

The Rams next will head to Montclair State for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m.
