Cegielski Paces Rams in Win Over Dominican

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State sophomore attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals and added one assist as the men's lacrosse team earned a 14-4 victory over Division II Dominican College on Sunday afternoon.

Senior attack Brad Rapone's (Roslyn, N.Y.) man-up goal off Mike Curry's (Melville, N.Y.) pass only 3:09 into the game gave the Rams (9-1) an early 1-0 advantage. With 4:22 remaining in the first, Cegielski recorded an unassisted goal to put Farmingdale State ahead, 2-0.

After Dominican (3-9) closed the first quarter with a goal, FSC junior midfielder Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.) responded with a score for the Rams to bring the lead to 3-1.

With 7:09 remaining in the second quarter and Farmingdale State leading 3-2, the Rams used a James Reiser (Melville, N.Y.) score and back-to-back goals from Cegielski to open up a 6-2 advantage at the break.

Cegielski opened the third with two consecutive goals to extend the FSC lead to 8-2 with 7:19 left in the quarter. Junior attack Tyler Rifice* (Bohemia, N.Y.) followed with back-to-back goals to close the quarter and give the Rams a 10-2 lead.

Farmingdale State outscored Dominican 4-2 in the fourth quarter en route to the 14-4 non-conference victory.

Cowcer and Rifice each finished with a pair of goals; while Reiser and senior attack Dan Caliendo (Sayville, N.Y.) both had a goal and an assist. Sophomore defender Nick Perrone (Northport, N.Y.) had game-highs in ground balls (8) and caused turnovers (3) for the Rams.

The Chargers were led by freshman midfielder David Arent (Huntington Beach, Calif.) who scored twice and added one assist.

FSC senior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) had 14 saves in 51 minutes of action.

The Rams next will play host to Vassar in a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 13th at 6:00 p.m.
