Rams Defeat Kean; Earn Seventh Straight Victory

Union, N.J. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team traveled to Kean University on Saturday afternoon and earned a 7-4 Skyline Conference victory. The Rams have now won seven consecutive games and stand at 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Farmingdale State opened the scoring only 1:48 into the game as junior attack Tyler Rifice* (Bohemia, N.Y.) scored off the pass from Derrick Sherrod (Huntington, N.Y.). The Rams increased their advantage to 2-0 after Sherrod recorded an unassisted goal. With 1:20 left in the first, Kean (7-4, 1-1) used a man-up score from Matt Brodley (Montvale, N.J.) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

After the Cougars tied the game at 2-2, FSC junior midfielder Stephen White (Copiague, N.Y.) and sophomore attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) closed the second quarter with goals to give the Rams a 4-2 halftime edge.

Midway through the third quarter, Sherrod connected off White's pass to put Farmingdale State ahead by three, 5-2. Kean senior attack Anthony Carpenter (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored with only 23 seconds left in the third to close within two.

White and junior midfielder Mike Curry (Melville, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals for the Rams in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 7-3. The Cougars would add a late goal as FSC earned the 7-4 road win.

Sherrod and White each tallied a game-high three points on two goals and one assist, while Curry and Cegielski each had a goal and an assist. Sophomore defender Nick Perrone (Northport, N.Y.) picked up a game-high five ground balls in the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) recorded 13 saves for the Rams, while senior Maxwell Fields (Wayne, N.J.) stopped 12 shots for Kean.

FSC will now host Dominican (NY) in a non-conference game later today at 2:00 p.m.
