Rams Improve to 7-1 with Win at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team led 9-0 at half en route to the 16-2 non-conference win at Western Connecticut on Wednesday evening. The Rams improved to 7-1 on the season, while the Colonials now stand at 2-6.

Senior midfielder Derrick Sherrod (Huntington, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Rams and Conor Pittard (Setauket, N.Y.) followed with back-to-back goals to put FSC ahead, 3-0. Sherrod added two more first quarter goals and junior attack Tyler Rifice* (Bohemia, N.Y.) scored once as the Rams led 6-0 after one quarter.

In the second, Farmingdale State used goals from sophomore attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.), junior midfielder Stephen White (Copiague, N.Y.) and senior defender Dylan Bates* (Wading River, N.Y.) to take a 9-0 advantage into halftime.

After outscoring Western Connecticut 4-0 in the third, the Rams led by as many as 14 in the 16-2 non-conference road victory.

Sherrod finished with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists, while Pittard added three goals. Cegielski tallied two goals and two assists and Rifice totaled two goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Ryan Corbett* (Plainview, N.Y.) picked up a game-high seven ground balls in the win.

The Colonials were led by senior attack Nate Wilson (Norwich, Conn.) who scored one goal, had an assist, four ground balls and caused two turnovers.

FSC next will travel to Kean for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 p.m.
