Rams Fall in Semifinals at Montclair State

Montclair, N.J. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell, 17-8, at top-seeded Montclair State in the Skyline Conference semifinals this afternoon. The Rams finished the season with an 8-8 record, while the Red Hawks advanced to the finals where they will host Stockton.

Trailing 3-1 with 12:21 remaining in the second period, Farmingdale State sophomore midfielder Nick LeBright (Levittown, N.Y.) scored off the pass from Kyle Carrick* (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to one. Only 20 seconds later, a goal by sophomore attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) tied the game at 3-3.

Montclair State (12-5) responded with three unanswered goals as they took a 6-3 lead into halftime.

Senior midfielder Michael Schreck (Flemington, N.J.) increased the Red Hawks advantage to 7-3 after a man-up score with 14:25 left to play in the third. Montclair State added three goals in the next 4:15 to extend their lead to 10-3.

The Rams answered with back-to-back scores from freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) to close within five, 10-5. After a Red Hawks goal, Rifice tallied his second score of the game for FSC with 23 seconds remaining in the third period.

Trailing 12-6 with 12:55 left in the fourth, an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.) cut the Rams deficit to 12-7. Montclair State outscored Farmingdale State 5-1 the remainder of the way as they clinched a berth into the Skyline Conference Finals.

Cegielski recorded a team-high four points on two goals and two assists, while Rifice finished with two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) had one goal and picked up a team-leading six ground balls for the Rams.

The Red Hawks were led by junior midfielder Zach Schreck (Flemington, N.J.) and junior attack Brett Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) who scored seven and five goals, respectively.
