Kean Hands Rams First Conference Loss

Farmingdale, N.Y. -The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell 10-6 in a Skyline Conference game today against Kean University (6-5, 2-0). The Rams dropped to 6-4 overall, 1-1 in conference play.

Leading 6-2 at the half, Kean increased the advantage to five goals midway through the third period with a man-up score by junior mifielder Eric Talbot (Holbrook, N.Y.) off a Jeff Christiano (Rivervale, N.J.) pass.

With 3:10 remaining in the third, senior attack Philip Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) netted a feed from Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.). Only 51 seconds later, the pair connected again to cut the Rams deficit to 7-4. Farmingdale State closed to within two, 1:07 into the fourth period, on a score by freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.).

Sophomore midfielder Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.) made it 7-6 four minutes later, off a feed from Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.). Kean recorded three unanswered goals to close out the fourth period, en route to the 10-6 conference win.

Rifice finished with a game-high four assists, while Schaefer scored a game-high three goals. Cegielski scored once and had a team-high four ground balls and junior defender Dylan Bates (Wading River, N.Y.) caused a game-high three turnovers and picked up two ground balls for the Rams.

Kean was led by senior midfielder Mike Criscitello (Edison, N.J.), who was 11-for-15 on faceoffs with six ground balls. Junior attack Anthony Carpenter (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had a game-high four points on one goal and three assists.

Junior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) made eight saves for the Rams, while junior Maxwell Fields (Wayne, N.J.) stopped 16 shots for the Cougars.

The Rams will next host Western Connecticut on Wednesday, April 8th in their first night game of the season at 6:00 p.m.
