Kean Overcomes Slow Start to Defeat Rams

Union, N.J. - Kean outscored Farmingdale State 9-4 in the second half en route to the 13-9 Skyline Conference win on Wednesday. The Rams suffered their first conference loss of the season and now stand at 6-4, 2-1, while the Cougars improved to 11-1, 2-0.

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scores by freshman midfielder Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.), junior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) and a pair from freshman attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.).

Trailing 5-1 with 7:36 remaining in the second period, sophomore attack Matt Speciale (Hillsborough, N.J.) tallied an unassisted score and sophomore midfielder Anthony Perrotta (Roseland, N.J.) followed with a man-down goal to pull Kean within two, 5-3. The Cougars added the final score of the half as Farmingdale State took a 5-4 advantage into halftime.

After senior midfielder Andrew Incantalupo (Shirley, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead 6-5, Kean answered with five straight goals to jump out to a 10-6 lead with 1:58 left in the third period. Devaney tallied an unassisted score with 39 seconds remaining to cut the Rams deficit to three.

Farmingdale State was outscored 3-2 in the final period as Kean capped off the comeback victory.

Devaney, Cowcer, Rifice and junior attack Philip Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) each recorded two goals, while junior attack Tom Rotanz (Wading River, N.Y.) added two assists for the Rams.

Kean was led by senior attack Richard Cheifitz (Fair Lawn, N.J.) who had a game-high six points on five goals and one assist.

Farmingdale State next will host Montclair State in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, April 12th at 1:00 p.m.
