Skyline Releases Spring Weekly Report #4

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the Spring weekly report #4 on Monday, March 24th, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Pitcher of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics.

Men's Golf Update

The Farmingdale State men's golf team played their first match of the spring season on Monday, March 24th on their spring break trip to Florida. The Rams posted a 1-over par 289 at Crooked Cat Golf Course, setting a school record for their lowest team total in relation to par, but fell by two strokes to Luther College.

Senior Rich Kelly (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished in second place after firing a career-best 2-under par round of 70. Kelly played the front nine at even par and posted a 34 on the back.

The Rams next will travel to Rock Hill Country Club for the 10th Annual Peter King Memorial Tournament hosted by Dowling College on Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th.

Men's Lacrosse Update (4-2, 0-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The Rams went 2-0 with a 16-9 win over Manhattanville and then a come-from-behind 11-10 overtime win against Misericordia.

Freshman attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week as he tallied seven goals on 18 shots and added seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. He scored two goals on Mar. 19 versus Manhattanville with a team-high five goals. On Mar. 22 against Misericordia, his caused turnover with 30 seconds remaining in regulation led to the game-tying goal.

Junior attack Philip Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) was named to the Honor Roll with a team-leading 10 points. He had a team-high 5 goals and 1 assist in the win over Manhattanville. He finished with 2 goals and 2 assists in the Rams comeback victory over Misericordia on Saturday, assisting the game-tying goal with 20 seconds left in the 4th period.

This week the team travels to Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 25th at 4:30 p.m. before facing Skyline opponent Maritime on Saturday, March 29th at 1:00 p.m.

 

Baseball Update (10-3, 2-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The Rams went 3-0 this week with a 7-6 win against Nichols on Monday in Florida and then a conference sweep over Maritime College on Saturday, March 22nd.

Farmingdale State junior outfielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Player of the week after collecting seven hits in 14 at-bats with five RBI and four runs scored in a 3-0 week for the Rams. He went 5-for-9 with four RBI, three runs scored and an inside-the-park home run on Mar. 22 in the wins over Maritime. 

Sophomore pitcher Kevin Cashman (Hicksville, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Pitcher of the Week tossed 7.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn a pair of victories while lowering his earned run
average to 0.68 on the year. He entered a 6-6 game versus Nichols and allowed two hits over 4.2 innings as FSC notched a 7-6 win. He then scattered one hit over three innings against Maritime on Mar. 22. He struck out five and did not walk a batter in the two appearances.

The Rams travel for conference doubleheaders this weekend, facing the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday at Noon at Van Cortlandt Park. On Sunday, they play at Purchase at Noon.

 

Women's Lacrosse Update (7-1, 1-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The Rams were 2-1 on the week with victories over UNE and Purchase and a close 15-13 loss at Montclair State.

Junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline Honor Roll after another all-around week scoring eight goals, four assists, 10 ground balls and 16 draw controls.

The team left on Monday morning for their Spring Break trip to North Carolina. The Rams will face Greensboro on Tuesday, March 25th at 4:00 p.m. and then play at Guilford College on Thursday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m. Live feeds are available for Guilford at http://www.guilfordquakers.com.

 

Men's Tennis Update (3-2, 1-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The men's tennis team went 1-1 last week with a 6-3 loss to Hunter and 9-0 victory over The Sage Colleges.

Junior Brian Heinlein (Patchogue, N.Y.) and freshman Marvin Beaubrun (Farmingdale, N.Y.) were named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll list. Both went 2-0 in singles action this week and Heinlein also picked up a win in doubles against Hunter.

Farmingdale State next will travel to face Yeshiva University at Binghamton Racquet Club on Thursday, March 27th at 8:00 p.m., before hosting Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, March 29th at 1:00 p.m.

 

Softball Update (9-7, 2-2 Skyline) - Full Report

Farmingdale State posted a 4-2 record this week with a sweep at Brooklyn College and then a 2-2 record in conference games this weekend.

Freshman first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Co-Rookie of the Week after she batted .750 (12-for-16) with six RBI. She went 4-for-5 with a home run on Mar. 21 as the Rams earned 7-4 and 6-5 victories over Brooklyn, then collected eight hits in 11 at-bats with a homer and four RBI in four games versus Mount Saint Mary and CMSV. She totaled four runs on the week.

Junior centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) was named to the Honor Roll, hitting 12-for-22 with five RBI and three extra-base hits over six games.

Barring any snow cancellations, the Rams will travel to face Montclair State on Thursday, March 27th at 3:00 p.m. and then host doubleheaders this weekend with NYU-Poly on Saturday at Noon and Purchase on Sunday at Noon.

 

Men's and Women's Outdoor Track

The team will open this weekend in the St. Joseph's Invitational. Saturday's events will be held at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, N.Y. and Sunday's events will be held at Farmingdale State.
