Rifice Scores Five as Rams Defeat Hartwick

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) scored a career-high five goals in Farmingdale State's 12-7 non-conference win over Hartwick College this afternoon. The Rams improved to 2-2 on the season, while the Hawks fell to 0-3.

Tied 2-2 midway through the second period, Rifice scored his third goal of the afternoon off the feed from freshman attack Conor McNamara (Levittown, N.Y.) to put Farmingdale State ahead by one. Freshman midfielder Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.) scored with 11 seconds remaining in the half and senior midfielder Vincent Aniano (Oceanside, N.Y.) followed with a goal only six seconds later to give the Rams a 5-2 advantage at the break.

After Farmingdale State increased the lead to 6-2, Hartwick answered with three unanswered goals, including two man-up scores to pull within one, 6-5. Junior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) brought the advantage back to two with an unassisted score with 7:06 left in the third period. Rifice scored his fourth and fifth goals of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the period to extend the lead to 9-5.

Leading 9-6 to start the fourth, the Rams outscored Hartwick 3-1 in the period to cap off the 12-7 victory.

Rifice finished the game with six points and three ground balls, while junior attack Philip Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored twice. Senior midfielder Andrew Incantalupo (Shirley, N.Y.) tallied three points on one goal and two assists and Devaney picked up a game-high nine ground balls.

The Hawks were led by senior midfielders Cody Ciolino (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Zach Gropper (Syosset, N.Y.) who each had two goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) recorded five saves in the first half and freshman Nicholas Fasano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) had six saves in the second half as the pair split time in goal for Farmingdale State.

The Rams next will travel to Manhattanville for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m.
