Rams Drop Season Opener Against Morrisville State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell, 8-4, to non-conference opponent Morrisville State in their first game of the season today. Morrisville junior attack Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) and sophomore attack Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) each scored a game-high three goals in the victory.

The Rams (0-1) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on unassisted scores by junior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Daniel Desimone (Plainview, N.Y.). After the Mustangs (1-0) cut the deficit to 2-1, Geswaldo scored an unassisted goal with one second remaining in the first period to tie the game.

Neither team scored in the second period as the game went to halftime tied 2-2.

With 9:22 remaining in the third, Beresovoy scored to give Morrisville State their first lead of the game, 3-2. Trailing 5-2, Farmingdale State junior attack Philip Schaefer's (Holbrook, N.Y.) unassisted goal with 36 seconds left in the period pulled the Rams within two.

The Mustangs scored the first three goals of the final period to extend the advantage to 8-3 with only 2:50 left to play. Junior midfielder Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.) added the final goal of the game, but the Rams fell 8-4.

Devaney was 12-for-13 on face-offs and picked up a game-high 11 ground balls for the Rams, while freshman attack Conor McNamara (Levittown, N.Y.) had five ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Farmingdale State next will host Oneonta State in a non-conference game on Saturday, March 1st at 1:00 p.m.
