Big Fourth Period Leads Rams over Manhattanville

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team defeated Manhattanville College today, 13-8, in a non-conference game in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 2-4 overall with the win, while the Valiants fell to 0-6 on the season.

Manhattanville scored at the 10:53 mark in the first and added another tally just 1:06 later to take a 2-0 lead early. Over the next minute, Farmingdale State tied the game with two goals, one each from freshman attack Matthew Visintin (Yonkers, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.), then scored four more to build a 6-2 advantage with 12:59 left in the second. At the break, the Rams led 7-3.

In the third, the Valiants rallied with three straight goals to cut the deficit to 7-6, outscoring Farmingdale State 3-1 in the period. Rams junior midfielder Vincent Aniano (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored with 40 seconds left to make it 8-6 after three.

In the final period, Manhattanville's senior attack Peter Callahan (Fairfield, Conn.) made it 8-7 with 13:26 left to play, but Farmingdale State would add five more goals the rest of the way to secure the victory.

The Rams were led by Visintin, who finished with a team-high three goals, while senior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) had three assists and one goal. Sophomore midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) won 21-of-25 faceoffs today, a career-high which is the second highest in program history. The single-game school record for faceoff wins in a game is 22.

Farmingdale State will now host Maritime College for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 p.m.
