Fast Start Leads McDaniel Past Rams

Westminster, MD - McDaniel College held a 10-0 lead at halftime en route to a 15-8 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State today. The Rams dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Green Terror improved to 3-5.

McDaniel scored nine first period goals, including three by sophomore attack Pat Bivons (Cockeysville, MD) and added one in the second period to take a 10-0 advantage into halftime.

Farmingdale State opened the second half with goals by senior attack Tom Hartmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Ryan Corbett (Plainview, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 10-2. After a Green Terror goal, senior midfielder Jason Optiz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored off the feed from sophomore midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) with 5:49 remaining the in third period. McDaniel closed the period with a pair of goals to increase the lead to 13-3.

The Rams outscored McDaniel 5-2 in the final period but dropped the non-conference game 15-8.

Opitz scored two goals, had two assists and a team-high five ground balls, while Thomas added three assists for Farmingdale State.

The Green Terror were led by sophomore midfielder Sean Brett (Hamilton, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Jason Lawrence (Fallston, MD) who each had four goals, while Bivons had three goals and two assists.

Farmingdale State next will host Manhattanville in a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 20th at 4:00 p.m.
