Skyline Releases Spring Weekly Report #2

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the Spring weekly report #2 on Monday, March 11th, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Pitcher of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics.

Baseball Update (5-6, 0-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The baseball team swept a home doubleheader against Plattsburgh State this past weekend. Farmingdale State picked up a 9-4 win in game one and earned a 1-0 victory in the second game.

Sophomore shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week. Alvino went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI as Farmingdale State collected a sweep of Plattsburgh State. Alvino had two hits in each contest and added two walks and a pair of stolen bases.

Junior pitcher James Powers (Jamesport, N.Y.) earned Skyline Pitcher of the Week honors. Powers tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn his second victory of the season as Farmingdale State edged Plattsburgh State, 1-0. He allowed just one hit and fanned three, while not issuing a walk. This season Powers has allowed just six hits in 12 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts.

Senior left fielder David Zilnicki's (Riverhead, N.Y.) stolen base in the first inning of game one gave him 38 career stolen bases which passed Luis Feliciano for the most all-time in school history.

This week the baseball team will host Southern Maine on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 17th at noon.

Women's Lacrosse Update (2-0, 0-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The Rams won their first game of the season after defeating Manhattanville 21-13 this past Sunday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Kristen Ranaldo (Commack, N.Y.) was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. Ranaldo compiled four points in her collegiate debut with one goal and three assists. She added two draw controls and a ground ball.

Sophomore midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline Honor Roll. Thoden scored twice and amassed 15 draw controls in the Rams win versus Manhattanville.

On Monday, Farmingdale State earned a 19-3 victory over conference opponent Old Westbury and they will host Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, March 13th at 4:00 p.m.

Men's Lacrosse Update (1-2, 0-0 Skyline) - Full Report

Senior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal 39 seconds into overtime at Hartwick as the Rams won their first game on the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) was named Skyline Rookie of the Week. Fallon registered nine saves against Hartwick in overtime, including four
saves in the second period. Fallon has 36 saves to date this season.

Opitz was named to the Honor Roll after his effort at Hartwick.

The men's lacrosse team will travel to Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. on Wednesday, March 13th at 4:00 p.m. and then head to Westminster, MD to face McDaniel College on Saturday, March 16th at noon.

Farmingdale State will kick off the 2013 season at the NTC Spring Games in Florida this week.

Men's Tennis Update (0-0) - Full Report

The Rams will open the season at home against John Jay on Friday, March 15th at 4:30 p.m. and host Hunter on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m.
