Rams Drop Season Opener at Scranton

Scranton, Penn. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell, 9-3, in their 2013 season opener at The University of Scranton on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 midway through the first period, Farmingdale State senior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) evened the score with a man-up goal off the pass from Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Scranton senior midfielder Dillon McInerney (Hawthorne, N.J.) scored three unassisted goals in the second period to give the Royals a 4-1 lead at halftime.

Scranton added the first four goals in the third, before junior midfielder Vincent Aniano (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal with 11 seconds left in the period to cut the Rams deficit to 8-2. Each team added one goal in the final period as the Royals picked up their first win of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) made 13 saves for Farmingdale State, while senior Ben Worthington (Jenkintown, Penn.) stopped 13 shots for Scranton.

The Rams next will host Plattsburgh State in a non-conference game on Friday, March 1st at 4:00 p.m.
