2012 Men's Lacrosse Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team finished with a 6-9 record, including 4-2 in the Skyline and appeared in the conference playoffs for the fourth straight year. Seeded #3, the Rams faced Kean in the Skyline semifinals and fell, 13-11, in a heartbreaking loss in the final minutes of the game.

The offense was led by senior Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.), who finished with a team-high 38 points (21 goals, 17 assists), including two game-winning goals and two man-down goals. Senior Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored a team-high 23 goals, while junior Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the extra-man opportunities with 11 man-up goals.

On the face-offs, freshman Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) won 56-of-112 draws and sophomore Al Rocco (Elmont, N.Y.) was 69-of-146. Long stick midfielder Ricky Morales (Holbrook, N.Y.) had a team-high 53 groundballs and 26 caused turnovers.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) finished with a goals against average of 9.32 and a .550 save percentage. Delventhal leaves Farmingdale State with a school record 503 career saves. Jack Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.), Peter Deignan (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Joe Ciaravino (Levittown, N.Y.) controlled the defense and combined for 58 caused turnovers.

Oswald, Caden and Ciaravino were each named First Team All-Skyline, while Morales, Delventhal and senior Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.) received Second Team honors.

The Rams graduate 10 seniors, but have plenty of young talent returning next season.
