Wesleyan Pulls Past Rams in Third Period

Middletown, Conn. - The Rams fell 9-4 to #15 Wesleyan University (7-1) on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference men's lacrosse game held in Middletown, Connecticut. Farmingdale State is now 3-8 overall.

Wesleyan got on the board first just four minutes in, but the Rams scored three straight goals to hold a 3-1 lead halfway through the second period. Freshman attack Dan Cozier (West Islip, N.Y.) scored at 9:50 in the first, off a pass from freshman attack Brad Rapone (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) for the 1-1 score.

Junior defenseman Ricky Morales (Holbrook, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal at 5:18 in the first. In the second, senior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) connected with a man-up goal, assisted by senior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.), for the 3-1 score.

The Cardinals scored two goals in the final minute of the second period, to tie the game 3-3 at the halftime break. They scored six in the third, shutting down the Rams, who would see just one more goal in the fourth by senior midfielder Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.) with 4:40 left to play.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) made 13 saves in defeat, including two stops on one-on-one breaks by Wesleyan, one of which was from his counterpart, senior goalie Grant Covington, who played 45 minutes in goal and the rest on the field. Delventhal ended the first half with nine saves. 

Farmingdale State has a long break before hosting Richard Stockton next on Saturday, April 14, a Skyline Conference game at 1:00 p.m. The game will mark Senior Day for 11 members of the team.
