Opitz Leads Rams over Knights

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team snapped their three game losing streak with a commanding 17-3 victory today over Mount Saint Mary College (4-6, 0-2). The Rams improved to 3-7 overall, 1-2 in the Skyline with the win.

Junior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State an early 2-0 lead in the opening five minutes, before the Mount got on the board with an unassisted tally from freshman midfielder Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) at 8:49 of the first period.

The Rams scored 14 straight over the next 37 minutes and would hold a 16-1 advantage with 2:24 left to play in the third, as Farmingdale State rolled to the 17-3 final.

For Farmingdale State, senior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals with one assist and four ground balls. Freshman attack Dan Cozier (West Islip, N.Y.) dished off four assists and scored one goal. The faceoffs were controlled by freshman midfielder Kevin Schneider (East Meadow, N.Y.), who was a perfect 9-for-9, while sophomore midfielder Al Rocco (Elmont, N.Y.) won 7-of-10 faceoffs. Thomas would finish with two goals, two assists and a game-high six ground balls.

The Rams will now travel to face Wesleyan University on Wednesday, April 4 in a non-conference game at 4:30 p.m.
