Montclair, N.J. - Senior attack Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, N.J.)  scored four goals and added five assists while junior Jack Skeel (Roseland, N.J.) collected four goals and one assist as Montclair State raced past Farmingdale State 16-6 in the Skyline Conference men's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Senior goalkeeper Mark Glander (Vernon, N.J.) stopped 17 shots for the Red Hawks (2-5, 1-0 Skyline), who won the rematch of last year's conference tournament championship game.

Senior midfielder Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.) had three goals for the Rams, who lost their second straight and fell to 2-6 overall, 0-1 Skyline.

Montclair State stormed out of the gate with the game's first six goals by six different players as the Red Hawks built that lead by the early portion of the second quarter. Meth and Kenneth Bogert (Brick, N.J.) scored unassisted tallies in the first and John Barney set by goals by Joel Van Der Wal (Columbia, N.J.) and Michael Schreck (Flemington, N.J.) late in the opening period as MSU led 4-0 after the first.

Matt Prongay (Edison, N.J) scored nine seconds into the second quarter and Skeels' first off an assist from Meth with 12:49 to play made the score 6-0. Farmingdale would end the run less than a minute later, however, Kevin Dyer (Flemington, N.J.) and Skeels scored just over a minute apart as Montclair State led 8-1 at the break.

Skeels and Meth combined on a goal 14 seconds into the third period as the lead went to 9-1. Robinson countered for Farmingdale with 13:26 remaining but that was answered by defensive midfielder Sean Gilmore (Elmwood Park, N.J.) who scooped up the ground ball off the faceoff, raced down the field and scored eight seconds later. Meth added his second with 10:28 left for an 11-2 lead.

The Rams would attempt to climb back into the contest as Robinson and sophomore midfielder Vincent Aniano (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored 51 seconds apart to make the score 11-4 with 6:19 to go. But Montclair answered eight seconds later as Skeels and Meth combined on the goal as the lead was restored to eight goals.

Barney finished with a goal and two assists for the Red Hawks, who outshot Farmingdale, 39-30. Bogert finished with 12 faceoff wins and a team-best seven ground balls while Glander registered six. Mike Lade (Randolph, N.J.) and Mike Chiavetta (Clifton, N.J.) had two caused turnovers apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) made 11 saves and had four ground balls for Farmingdale.

Farmingdale State will now travel on Wednesday, March 28 for a game in Union, N.J. at Skyline rival Kean University at 7:00 p.m.
