Caden's Double OT Goal Leads Rams Past Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. - Senior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 3:49 remaining in double overtime to lead Farmingdale State to a 12-11 victory over Greensboro College. The Rams improved to 2-4 overall, while the Pride dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

Leading 8-5 early in the third period, Farmingdale State increased their lead to four as senior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored off the feed from junior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.). Thomas scored an unassisted goal 43 seconds later to put the Rams ahead 10-5 with 12:29 remaining in the third. Greensboro responded with a man-down goal by sophomore attack Scott Showalter (Bel Air, MD) at the 10:20 mark. The Pride added three consecutive scores over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to 10-9. Oswald and Thomas connected again with only four seconds left in the third period to increase the Rams lead to 11-9.

With 3:48 remaining in regulation, Showalter pulled Greensboro within one, 11-10, as he netted the pass from sophomore attack Alex Vanderhoff (Apex, N.C.). Junior midfielder Skip Jakupi (Greensboro, N.C.) scored the game tying goal only six seconds later for the Pride.

After a scoreless first overtime, Caden scored an unassisted man-down goal with 3:49 left on the clock to lead Farmingdale State to the 12-11 non-conference victory.  

The Rams were led by Oswald and Caden who scored three and two goals, respectively. Thomas had a team-high four points scoring two goals and adding two assists. Junior defender Ricky Morales (Holtsville, N.Y.) caused two turnovers, had six ground balls to go along with a goal and an assist.

Showalter had a game-high seven points with three goals and four assists for Greensboro. Jakupi picked up 11 ground balls and was 17-for-26 on faceoff's, while senior attack Bill Blakely (Charlotte, N.C.) scored three goals and recorded an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the victory, while junior goalie Mitchell Kanowicz (Leonardtown, MD) had nine saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State next will face Connecticut College at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field on Wednesday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m.
