Big Fourth Period Gives Rams Win on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team (7-4, 4-0) scored five goals in the fourth period to secure an 11-6 victory over visiting Skyline Conference opponent Maritime College (6-8, 4-2) today in Farmingdale, N.Y. Rams seniors Larry Gerardi (Northport, N.Y.), Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y.), Chris Jap Ngie (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Brian Nerney (Massapequa, N.Y.) played in their final regular-season home game today.

Farmingdale State scored the first goal at 10:29 in the first, an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y.), to take the 1-0 lead and Maritime would not lead the rest of the way. Both teams traded goals in the first two periods of play with a 4-4 score at the half.

In the third period, the Rams Hubschmitt scored to give his team another one goal lead, 5-4, and Owsinski scored his second of the day to give his team the first two-goal lead of the day. To start the scoring in the fourth, junior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) connected on a pass from junior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) for the three-goal advantage with 11:09 left to play.

Maritime responded with two goals over the next 46 seconds, a goal at 10:29 to cut the lead to 7-5 and a goal at 10:23 which came directly after a faceoff to cut the lead to 7-6. But Farmingdale State would score the final four goals of the day to take the conference victory and remain undefeated at 4-0 in Skyline play.

For the Rams, Owsinksi led with a game-high four goals, while Oswald and Hubschmitt each notched two goals apiece. Caden picked up a game-high seven ground balls, scored one goal and two assists. Nerney made 11 saves for his fourth win this season (4-0 record in goal).

Farmingdale State will now face the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Yonkers, N.Y. at Tibbetts Brook Park on Wednesday, April 20th for a Skyline game at 7:00 p.m.
