Rams and Nerney Holds Off Kean in Conference Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team improved to 6-4, 3-0 in the Skyline Conference with a 10-6 victory today against Kean University (7-5, 2-2). Rams senior goalkeeper Brian Nerney (Massapequa, N.Y.) made 14 saves for the win, as he anchored a defense which allowed just one goal in the second half.

Kean scored the first goal of the day, but Farmingdale State would score the next four to break open a 4-1 lead early in the second period. The Cougars tied the game at 5-5 with 5:12 remaining before the halftime break, scoring three quick goals in a 1:43 span, but the Rams came back with three of their own goals to lead 8-5 at the half.

Nerney made eight saves in the first half and made 6 more in the second as the defense held Kean to just one goal in the fourth period. Farmingdale's eventual game-winner was scored by junior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) on a pass from senior attack Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y.), who finished the day with five assists. Oswald scored a game-high four goals for the Rams. Junior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) and Hubschmitt both grabbed a team-high five ground balls.

Freshman midfielder Richard Cheifitz (Fair Lawn, N.J.) led the Kean attack with three goals. Senior midfielder Justin Lappen (Tolland, Conn.) won 11-of-17 faceoffs. Sophomore goalkeeper Lane Zierten (Washington Twp., N.J.) made seven saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State will now host Maritime College on Saturday, April 16th at 1:00 p.m. It will be Senior Day for Nerney, Hubschmitt and defender Chris Jap Ngie (Massapequa, N.Y.).
