Rams Rout Mount Saint Mary for First Conference Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team improved to 1-0 in the Skyline Conference after defeating Mount Saint Mary College, 21-1, this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Leading 6-0 to begin the second period, Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.), Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y.) each scored a goal within a 50 second span, increasing Farmingdale State's lead to 9-0. The Rams (4-4, 1-0) would tack on five more goals over the final 7:22 and take a 14-0 advantage into halftime. In the first half, the Rams outshot Mount Saint Mary 37-1 and held a 37-11 advantage in ground balls. 

Farmingdale State outscored the Knights 7-1 in the second half as junior midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y.) and junior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) each scored two goals. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) broke the shutout for the Knights (2-8, 0-1) scoring the team's lone goal with 4:33 remaining on the clock.

Oswald scored a game-high six goals and added an assist, while Thomas had four goals and five assists for a game-high nine points. Owsinski and Hubschmitt each netted two goals and recorded two assists, while junior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored two goals and had one assist. Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Al Rocco (Elmont, N.Y.) was 15-for-17 on face-offs and sophomore defender Julian Gelwicks (Hempstead, N.Y.) was 7-for-8. The Rams picked up 65 ground balls in the victory and allowed only three shots on goal.

Farmingdale State next will host Montclair State in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, April 6th at 4:00 p.m.
