Hubschmitt, Thomson Lead Rams Past Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. - Junior attack Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y.) and senior attack Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y.) scored a combined seven goals to lead the Rams past Greensboro College on Sunday. Farmingdale State improved to 2-3 overall, while the Pride fell to 3-5 on the season.
Tied 2-2 early in the second period, Thomson scored the first of three Rams goals within the next 2:35. Sophomore midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Hubschmitt each added a goal, putting Farmingdale State ahead 5-2. Junior attack Tom Hartmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored off Hubschmitt's pass, extending the lead to four with 8:55 remaining before halftime. After a Greensboro score, junior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) netted a goal as Hubschmitt recorded his fourth assist of the first half and the Rams took a 7-3 lead into the break.
Leading 10-6 in the opening seconds of the fourth period, junior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) scored a man-down goal for Farmingdale State. The Pride closed within three after Max Aiken (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jose Rodriguez (Wexford, Penn.) scored a pair of goals within 32 seconds, cutting the deficit to 12-9. The Rams responded as Thomson, Hubschmitt and Oswald each scored midway through the final period, opening up a 15-9 lead and putting the game out of reach for Greensboro. The Pride would add three scores over the final five minutes, but they would fall short in the non-conference matchup.
Hubschmitt led the way with a game-high nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) and Thomson scored three goals and recorded two assists for five points. Oswald, Thomas and Caden each had two goals for the Rams. Junior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) had 17 saves in the victory.
Greensboro was led by junior attack Bill Blakely (Huntersville, N.C.) who had a team-high four goals as well as two assists. Sophomore midfielder Skip Jakupi (Greensboro, N.C.) was 25-of-31 on face-offs and had a game-high 16 ground balls. Sophomore goalie Mitchel Kanowicz (Leonardtown, Penn.) had 20 saves in the loss.
Farmingdale State next will play Christopher Newport University on Tuesday, March 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
