Cardinals Top Rams with Six Third Period Goals

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Leading 6-5 at halftime, six goals in the third period would give the Wesleyan University Cardinals (4-0) a 12-6 advantage and they would hold on for the 15-9 victory to top the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team (1-3) in a non-conference game this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.

The Cardinals led 6-1 after the first 15 minutes of play, before the Rams shut them out in the second period and trailed by just one goal at the half, 6-5, after goals from junior attack Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y.), junior attack Bill McGarvey (Sayville, N.Y.), junior midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.).

Wesleyan scored five straight in the third for an 11-5 lead and would hold Farmingdale State to just four goals the rest of the way, taking the 15-9 win. Junior goalkeeper Grant Covington (Gloucester, Mass.) made nine saves for the win.

For the Rams, Thomson led with four points (two goals and two assists), while Owsinski finished with two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Frank Limanni (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the team with eight ground balls.

Farmingdale State will now play at Greensboro College on Sunday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m.
