Delventhal and Rams Hold Off Plattsburgh in Home Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - With seven fourth period goals and a career-high 27 saves by junior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.), the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team defeated Plattsburgh State, 17-15, in their home opener. The Rams improved to 1-1 overall, while the Cardinals dropped to 0-1.

Farmingdale State held an 8-5 lead at the halftime break and led 10-9 to start the final period. Junior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored off Ricky Morales' (Holtsville, N.Y.) pass eight seconds in, giving the Rams a two goal advantage. Plattsburgh State responded with two goals in a 30 second span, tying the game at 11-11. The Rams regained the lead 13-11 with 7:40 remaining, after goals by sophomore midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Oswald. 

The Cardinals evened the score once again with a man-up goal from freshman attack Tim Lawrence (Kings Park, N.Y.) and a score by junior attack Pete Morgan (Putnam Valley, N.Y.). Three straight Farmingdale State goals put the Rams ahead 16-13 with 3:02 to play. Two Plattsburgh goals in the final minute and would not be enough as Farmingdale earned their first win of the season.

The Rams were led by junior attack Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y.) who scored five goals and had one assist. Oswald finished the game with four scores. Morales had two assists, four caused turnovers and six ground balls, while senior midfielder Frank Limanni (Massapequa, N.Y.) won 22-of-33 face-offs and picked up 15 ground balls.

Senior attack Kyle Norchi (Hauppauge, N.Y.) had a team-high three goals and seven ground balls for Plattsburgh, while Morgan finished with two goals and two assists. Junior goalkeeper Danny Caufield (Rochester, N.Y.) had 14 saves in defeat.

The Rams next will travel to Hartwick College on Saturday, March 12th at 1:00 p.m.
