2011 Men's Lacrosse Season Preview
Farmingdale, N.Y. - After finishing with an 11-7 overall record in 2010, fourth year Head Coach Tim Tuttle and the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team are prepared for upcoming 2011 season. The Rams open the season on March 1st at the University of Scranton.
Highlighting the attack this year will be junior Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y.), who led the team in goals (56) and was tied for points (79). Thomson, a First Team All-Skyline selection, led the conference and was ranked ninth in Division III in goals per game (3.11) and tied for the Skyline lead in points per game (4.39). Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y.), who received Second Team All-Conference honors, was second on the team with 47 assists and scored 32 goals for a total of 79 points. Hubschmitt was tied with Thomson for the conference lead in points per game and was second in assists per game (2.61). He was ranked fifth in the nation averaging 2.61 assists per game.
The Rams are returning juniors Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y.) at the midfield position. Nosworthy was named Second Team All-Conference after scoring 33 goals and recording 20 assists, while Owsinski was third on the team with 34 goals last season. Senior Frank Limanni (Massapequa, N.Y.), a transfer from Molloy College, will likely be in charge of faceoff's for Farmingdale State this season. Junior Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.) transferred from Nassau Community College and should further strengthen the midfield position.
Defensively, sophomore Jack Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.), senior Chris Jap Ngie (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman Joe Galante (Manorville, N.Y.) are expected to get the starting nod. Jap Ngie led the team with 32 caused turnovers last season. Galante, a 2010 graduate of Eastport South Manor High School, is expected to make an immediate impact on defense for the Rams.
Junior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.), who started every game in goal last year, had a great fall but will be pushed by senior Brian Nerney (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior Patrick Schmidt (Massapequa, N.Y.) for the starting job.
