Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell to Skyline preseason favorite Montclair State in the conference opener today, 16-8. Senior attacker Sean Maxwell (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) led the Rams with three goals, as the team fell to 3-5, 0-1 in Skyline play. The Red Hawks improved to 6-3, 1-0 in the conference.

Montclair's senior midfielder John Schiavone (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) scored an unassisted goal just 12 seconds after the opening faceoff to give the Red Hawks the quick 1-0 lead. Farmingdale's sophomore midfielder Joe Stroessenreuther (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) responded just over a minute later to even the score at 1-1. Maxwell scored his first goal for the Rams off an assist from freshman midfielder Patrick Murphy (Commack, N.Y./Commack) with 11:32 left in the first period, giving Farmingdale a 2-1 lead.

Senior attacker Tyler Meixner (Hamburg, N.J./Vernon Township) connected on a pass from sophomore attacker Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) with 8:58 remaining, making it a 2-2 game. Maxwell scored his second of the day a minute later, assisted by freshman attacker Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park), pushing the Rams back ahead, 3-2.

Montclair scored the next three goals on extra-man opportunities, with goals from sophomore midfielder Mike Corsetto (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), Meth and sophomore midfielder Robert Sinicola (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex), to hold a 5-3 advantage with 11:15 left to play in the second period.

Senior Mike Maxwell (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) launched a shot past the Montclair goalie to get the Rams within one, 5-4, but the Red Hawks scored eight straight goals and held Farmingdale to four goals in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Teddy Leone (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) made seven saves in defeat over the first two periods, while Montclair senior goalie Thomas Bowers (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) made four saves for the win. Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y./Holy Trinity) made seven saves for Farmingdale in the third and fourth periods.

Meth led the Red Hawks with five goals and one assist, while junior attacker Patrick Nann (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) scored three goals. Schiavone won 9-of-16 faceoffs.

Farmingdale now travels to play Division II Dominican College on Wednesday, April 1st at 4:00 p.m.
