Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men lacrosse team earned their first win of the season against Briarcliffe College, 11-5, this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved their record to 1-1 with the victory. Senior midfielder Mike Maxwell (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) led Farmingdale with three goals and one assist.

The Rams opened up the day on a 9-0 run, starting with a goal by freshman attackman Gerald Trovato (Seaford, N.Y. / Seaford / NYIT) three minutes and 24 seconds into the game. The goal was Trovato's first as a Ram. Maxwell added the next two goals two minutes later within 16 seconds of each other. During the unanswered run, sophomore attackman Eddie Rifice (Babylon, N.Y. / Babylon) tallied two goals and an assist as well as Maxwell adding an additional goal and an assist.

Briarcliffe finally answered back with 1:46 remaining in the second period on a goal by freshman midfielder Jeff Orban (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport-South Manor).

Farmingdale would come out of the locker room and strike quickly. With only 31 seconds into the period, freshman attachman Erick Thompson (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park) netted his first goal of his college career.

Briarcliffe would outscored the Rams in the second half of the game, 4-2, with two goals by sophomore midfielder John Johnson (Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport) and another from Thompson. The first half run would prove too much for the visiting Briarcliffe.

The Rams continue their season next week, hosting both Oswego on Tuesday, March 10th and Hendrix on Wednesday March 11th. Both games are at 3 p.m.
