Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell 21-7 to Plattsburgh State today in the season opener. The Rams fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 1-1 overall.

Farmingdale scored first on a man-up opportunity, a goal by senior midfielder Mike Maxwell (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) assisted by sophomore midfielder Joe Stroessenreuther (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage). But Plattsburgh scored nine unanswered goals, including eight goals in the second period, to hold an 11-2 lead at the halftime break.

The Rams opened the second half with a goal by freshman midfielder Tim Gaskin (Hempstead, N.Y./Hempstead), assisted by sophomore attackman Eddie Rifice (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) to make it 11-3 Cardinals, but could not complete the comeback as Plattsburgh scored six goals in the third and four in the final period to take the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Matt Billia (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) made 15 saves in his 48 minutes of play for the win, while senior goalkeeper Teddy Leone (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) made 11 saves in defeat.

For the day, Gaskin recorded four goals for Farmingdale State, while Stroessenreuther had three assists and seven ground balls. Freshman defender Bobby Lazos (Bellmore, N.Y./Holy Trinity) finished with a team-leading nine ground balls.

The Rams host Briarcliffe College next, on Wednesday, March 4th at 3:00 p.m.
