Rams Outlast Maritime for Conference Victory

Farmingdale State - 14, Maritime College - 12

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State men’s lacrosse team defeated Skyline opponent Maritime College, 14-12, on Wednesday night in both squads’ conference-openers at Reinhart Field. With the win, the Rams improved to 7-3 overall, 1-0 in the conference while the Privateers fall to 2-6 on the season, 0-1 Skyline.

Maritime's Seth Collins and Farmingdale senior attack Sean Maxwell (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) scored the only goals of the first period, while Maxwell and sophomore midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) put the Rams up 3-1 early in the second period. The Privateers tied the game at 3-3 and junior attack Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) notched a goal with just under five minutes left for the 4-3 Rams lead at halftime.

Farmingdale came out in the third quarter with three quick goals by Hubschmitt and junior midfielder Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) to take a 7-3 lead. After a 15-minute delay due to a loss of power in one set of lights on the playing field, action resumed and Maritime controlled play and scored three of the last four goals of the third period to come within 8-6.

In the fourth, Farmingdale built its lead up to 13-8 before three goals over the next four minutes for Maritime would cut that deficit to just two, 13-11. The Rams scored their final goal with just under a minute to play and the Privateers closed out the scoring 13 seconds later for the 14-12 final.

Nosworthy finished with five goals and three assists, while Hubschmitt scored three goals and five assists. Sophomore attack Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) added three goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Joe Nacarlo (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) won 19-of-27 faceoffs for the Rams with 11 ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y./Holy Trinity) made 10 saves for the win.

Farmingdale State will now host Penn State-Abington on Saturday, April 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
