Rams Hold Off Hartwick for Non-Conference Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse
team picked up a victory over Hartwick College (2-2) today in a
non-conference game, winning 11-10 to improve to 4-1 overall. Rams
sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (West Babylon, N.Y./Holy
Trinity) made 13 saves in the victory.
Freshman midfielder Joe Shields (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) opened the scoring at 12:54 in the first period to give Hartwick the 1-0 edge, before Farmingdale responded with three straight goals over the next three minutes to take a 3-1 lead, all goals were assisted by sophomore attack Erick Thomson (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park).
Shields then assisted senior midfielder Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) with 5:18 left to play in the first to make it a one goal game, 3-2, but the Rams notched two more goals in the first to build a 5-2 lead.
In the second, Farmingdale State sophomore midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) added an unassisted goal to make it 6-2. Hartwick controlled the pace of play with an 11-7 shot advantage over the period and came back to score two goals, including a goal with 12 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 6-4 Rams.
Both teams scored three goals in the third, making the score 9-7 Farmingdale. After an early goal in the fourth from Thomson to make it 10-7, Hartwick fought back with a 17-5 shot advantage and trailed just 10-9 with 7:20 to play after freshman attack Harry Hughes (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) converted on a man-up opportunity.
Junior attack Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored 16 seconds later, the eventual game-winner, to cushion the lead for Farmingdale State, 11-9. The Rams held off Hartwick's six shots over the final minutes, as Delventhal made four late saves, allowing just one goal with 25 seconds on the clock to preserve the 11-10 win.
Thomson led in points for Farmingdale State with two goals and three assists. Owsinski finished with four goals, while freshman attack Pete Siemsen (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) added three assists. Sophomore midfielder Joe Nacarlo (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and junior midfielder Adam Zuar (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) won 16-of-23 faceoffs for the day.
Farmingdale State will now face No. 11 Wesleyan University on Wednesday, March 17th in Middletown, Connecticut.
