Plattsburgh Overpowers Rams in Second Half

Farmingdale, N.Y. - After holding a 12-11 lead at the half, the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell to Plattsburgh State, as the Cardinals scored 11 goals over the final two periods to take the 22-15 non-conference victory. Freshman attack Pete Siemsen (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) led the Rams with seven points in the loss.
In the first period, Farmingdale saw two quick goals from sophomore midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and junior midfielder Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), before the Cardinals got on the board with a tally from senior attack Luke Weidlein (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) for a 2-1 score. The Rams scored three straight to make it 5-1 halfway through, but Plattsburgh evened the score with five goals and allowing just one, to make it 6-6 after the first.
Owsinski gave the Rams an 8-6 lead early in the second and three straight from Plattsburgh would give them the 9-8 advantage with 10 minutes left to play in the period. Siemsen tied the game, 9-9, with an assist from junior attack Wes Hubschmitt (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and the Rams scored three more and took a 12-11 lead into the halftime break.
Hubschmitt scored at the 10-minute mark in the third for Farmingdale to make it 13-11, but it would be all Cardinals the rest of the way, as they scored 11 unanswered goals over the final two periods and built up a 22-13 lead with 5:49 left to play in the game. Siemsen assisted the final two Rams goals, but the final score would stand at 22-15.
Plattsburgh was led by Weidlein and junior attack Kyle Norchi (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) with five goals apiece. Senior midfielder Luke Flegar (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) scored three goals and sophomore attack Pete Morgan (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) finished with three assists. Junior goalkeeper Logan Carpenter (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) made 14 saves in the win.
Farmingdale's Siemsen led the scoring with career-highs of two goals and five assists, while senior attack Sean Maxwell (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon), Nosworthy and Owsinski each scored three goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y./Holy Trinity) made 19 saves in the loss.
The Rams now host Briarcliffe College on Wednesday, March 10th at 4:00 p.m.
