Rams Fall in Conference Game at Kean

Kean University - 18, Farmingdale State - 3

Union, N.J. - Sophomore Anthony Bertucci (Edison, N.J.) netted a team-high four goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team defeated Farmingdale State, 18-3, Wednesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium.

With the win the Cougars improved to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the Skyline Conference. The loss drops the Rams to 2-8 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.

Both teams battled early, trading goals in the first period. Farmingdale took their only lead of the match with what would end up being their last goal of the evening. Freshman Joey Stroessenreuther (Bethpage, N.Y.) put the Rams up 3-2 off an assist from freshman Eddie Rifice (Babylon, N.Y.).  The Cougars scored the final two goals of the first period to tie things up and take the lead for good. Senior Dennis Novello (Freehold, N.J.) knotted the score at three off an assist from junior Chris DeCarlo (Sandy, Utah). Bertucci put KU up for good with just 1:30 remaining in the first period off an assist by Brian MacConnell (West Islip, N.Y.).

The Cougars would then go on to score the final 14 goals of the match, recording six in the second period, and four a piece in the final two frames.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, April 19th in the final home game of the regular season against Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent at 1:00 p.m. The game will feature senior day for Joe Meola, Jay Berndt, James Vaz, Nate Larrea and Michael Butler, Jr.
