Top-Seeded Rams Defeat MSMC to Advance to Skyline Semifinals

#1 Farmingdale State - 100, #8 Mount Saint Mary - 70


FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The top-seeded Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated #8 Mount Saint Mary, 100-70, in the Quarterfinal Round of the Skyline Conference Championship on Tuesday evening. The Rams have advanced to the Semifinals and will play host to #4 Maritime on Thursday night.

The Rams (19-7) controlled play early, scoring the first 17 points of the contest behind five points apiece from seniors Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.).

MSMC (9-17) slashed the Rams lead to eight, 19-11, with 10:25 remaining in the first half, but a jumper from freshman guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and a 3-pointer by senior guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) allowed FSC to regain a 13-point lead.

Farmingdale State was in front 29-15 with 6:08 on the clock and used a Powell 3-pointer and five points by freshman forward Macai John (Hauppauge, N.Y.) in an 8-2 spurt to take a commanding 20-point advantage.

Each team scored 13 points in the final five minutes of the half as the Rams took a 50-30 lead into halftime.

Hurowitz led all scorers with 15 points in the first 20 minutes.

The two teams traded baskets over the first 6:30 of the second half as the Rams maintained a 20-point advantage at 61-41.

Farmingdale State extended their lead on layups by Notias and Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.), two free-throws by Powell and a 3 from Davis to go up by 29, 70-41.

After a 3-pointer by the Knights, a pair of Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.) free-throws and a Notias jumper gave Farmingdale State a 74-44 lead.

FSC led by as many as 36 down the stretch as they earned the 100-70 victory.

Hurowitz recorded his fourth straight double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Powell tallied 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) matched a season-best with eight assists, to go along with six points, five rebounds and two steals. Senior forward Elijah Galloway (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a season-high 11 points off the bench and Notias and John registered 10 points apiece.

Davis and junior guard Jaden Barwicki (Island Park, N.Y.) each hit a pair of 3's for six points and Walters produced six points, five rebounds and two assists in the win.

As a team, the Rams recorded 25 assists, the fifth best mark in program history.

Farmingdale State will now play host to #4 Maritime in the Skyline Semifinals on Thursday, February 23rd at 7:00 p.m. Admission for Thursday's matchup is $5 for adults, with children 12 and under, as well as Skyline Conference students with an ID, free of charge.
